Frequently Asked Questions

What is Trigger Point Dry Needling?

Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling is a physical medicine, therapeutic, and diagnostic technique with the purpose of neutralizing dysfunction in soft tissue and restoring muscle and fascial function. This procedure acts to mechanically disrupt physiologically locked tissue and is accomplished by inserting a small, thin gauge, monofilament needle into the affected tissue.

This procedure is not to be confused with Acupuncture. Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling is based on Western concepts of anatomy, physiology, neurology, and biomechanics. Dry Needling has been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of acute and chronic pain.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No.  As a practicing physical therapist in the state of New Hampshire, I am licensed to evaluate and treat patients without a referral from your doctor.  However, some insurances will require that you obtain a doctor's order to receive reimbursement for treatment.

What can I expect during our initial visit?

Prior to our initial visit, I will send you the Home Advantage Physical Therapy Intake Packet, which includes an intake form, medical history record, and all necessary consent forms so that I may treat you. Here you'll have an opportunity to tell me more about your current quality of life, how acute and chronic pain are affecting you, and your goals for improvement. I read your packet thoroughly in the days leading up to our first meeting to begin to understand your unique physical needs.

On the day of your first appointment, I will arrive at your home or workspace with a portable mat platform (physical therapy table) and all of the necessary therapy and hygiene equipment to offer you services in traditional physical therapy exercise as well as dry needling, cupping, and soft tissue work as needed in your individual case.

Expect to spend 1.5 hours together at our initial visit. We'll have a chance to go over your packet to clarify any information and I will conduct a thorough baseline evaluation to determine the appropriate plan of treatment. At the end of our visit we will discuss your recommended individualized treatment plan, including frequency of in-person visits, at-home exercises, and suggestions for other lifestyle modifications to facilitate our work together.

At each subsequent visit, you can expect to spend 45 minutes to one hour together working toward your goals.

Compassion in Healthcare

Empathy provides an elevated healing environment

Compassion is being able to share in the experiences, emotions, and sensations of others. It is a conscious feeling of others' distress along with the want to alleviate their issues. What does compassion look like in healthcare? It looks like deep, attentive listening and a fundamental belief that you experience pain the way you describe it. Compassionate care providers are present with you in every moment of your care and offer caring and realistic reassurance along with actionable ways to improve your current situation. Come feel the positive experience that is compassion and healing in healthcare! I provide hands-on treatments with a quiet confidence and will always tailor your treatment to what works best for you.

Why Choose Cash-Based Physical Therapy?

HAPT is an out-of-network practice: Payment is accepted at the time of service by cash or personal check. This allows us the freedom to practice physical therapy without restrictions.

What this means for you:

Direct Access

With cash-based services, you can access care without a physician's referral, reducing delays in receiving care and streamlining the process.

Faster Progress

Without the bureaucracy of insurance approval, you can begin treatment immediately, potentially leading to quicker recovery and progress.

Innovative Techniques

I can explore and integrate innovative techniques that are not covered by insurance, including dry needling, cupping, and soft tissue work, leading to more effective and cutting-edge treatments.

Privacy + Control

You have greater control over your treatment decisions and privacy since you aren't required to share medical information with insurance companies.

Client-Centered Care

With financial alignment directly between client and therapist, our focus can remain on achieving the best outcomes for you rather than adhering to insurance requirements.

No Billing Hassles

Cash-based services eliminate the administrative burden of dealing with insurance claims, paperwork, and authorization processes, making the experience simpler for both of us.

Longer Treatment Sessions

Therapists at clinics that accept insurance are typically required to see 4 patients per hour, allowing for, at most, just 15 minutes of 1:1 care per individual each session. In contrast, we will have 45 minutes to 1 hour together each and every session.

Transparent Pricing

I offer transparent pricing, allowing you to know upfront what you will be paying, without hidden costs or surprises often found when using insurance.

Customized Treatment

I have greater flexibility to design individualized treatment plans without insurance restrictions, addressing specific needs and goals more effectively.

Holistic Approach

I can focus on a holistic approach to care, considering various factors contributing to your condition rather than just addressing the isolated symptoms allowed for by insurance plans.

Flexible Scheduling

Without insurance constraints, I can offer more flexible scheduling options, accommodating your preferences and needs more effectively. I offer daytime, evening, and weekend hours to align with a variety of schedules.

And Still...Likely Reimbursible

After treatment, you will receive an invoice that you may submit to your insurance company for full or partial reimbursement, depending on your insurer's out-of-network coverage and policies.

We encourage all new patients to check with their insurance company to determine coverage and cost. Some insurances require a doctor's order for successful reimbursement. We are unable to contact your insurance company on your behalf.
